6. In Ticntsin, the other area where large
British interests are concerned, the Chinese
Commissioners and the advisers have come to a
deadlock, and the questions at issue have been
referred to Nanking for discussion at the diplomatic
level. A major difficulty here is that various
properties which were in effect official assets of the
concession were held under Deed of Trust in the
namos of British trustccs to secure effective
discharge of the liabilitios of the former British
Municipal Council. Instructions are being sent to
H.M. Embassy which it is hoped may enable those logal
knots to bo disentangled to the satisfaction of both
sides, and at the same time provide for adequato
hospital, educational and other facilitics of
British residents.
